Mars 1001
Original score · Mirage3D · 2018
A fifty-minute fulldome film produced by Robin Sip at Mirage3D, telling the story of a hypothetical first human expedition to Mars. Unusually for the format, it was built from real sets, life-size props, and live actors shot on green screen, composited with CGI — modest by feature-film standards, but a significant undertaking for 8K fulldome, where the medium had been almost entirely computer-generated until then. Science journalist Miles O’Brien was among the cast. The score combines original music composed by Mark Slater with excerpts from the classical repertoire, recorded with the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra at Smecky Studios and mixed in London by Gerry O’Riordan.
